The UAE is redefining what’s possible in agriculture. In a region where less than 5% of land is naturally arable, the country has transformed environmental constraints into an opportunity to lead global food innovation.

Through the National Food Security Strategy 2051, the UAE is embracing advanced AgTech—such as vertical farming, hydroponics, aeroponics, and AI-driven food hubs—to dramatically reduce water usage by up to 90% while increasing local food production.

The Plant the Emirates national programme has further accelerated this shift, encouraging sustainable farming practices, expanding organic agriculture, and cutting food waste, all while strengthening community participation and long-term resilience.

Innovation goes even further with AI and space-age solutions, where data-driven tools help farmers predict climate patterns and optimize yields. From indoor farms to wheat grown successfully in desert landscapes, technology is proving that productivity is no longer limited by geography.

Sustainability remains at the core of this transformation. By adopting climate-smart farming practices and aligning agriculture with Net Zero 2050, the UAE is ensuring that food security and environmental responsibility advance together.
